It was a wonderful weekend with my family visiting the famous wine road along the Etruscan Coast. The perfect road trip from Florence only an hour and a half heading West toward Pisa we arrived at the quaint hamlet called Casale Marittimo. The town is situated in the Province of Pisa and has the best of both worlds breathtaking rolling hills of the perfect Tuscan Landscapes and just minutes away Coast line where the beach towns of Marina di Bibbona and Cecina are situated.
Casale Marittimo reminds me of San Gimignano with out the crowds. A pretty village town with excellent restaurants, wine bars and quaint stores. You can stay at these lovely apartments Borgo alla Mura situated in the town centre.
The neighbouring town of Montescudaio is also well worth a visit. Apart from its exceptional wines! the town is a little overshadowed by its famous neighbour Bolgheri. One of our favourite meals was at Enoristorante Bibere where husband and wife due Mirko and Barbara prepare incredible seasonal and local cuisine with a contemporary flavour. We especially liked the Red -onion – tarte tatin served with parmigiano sorbet and the hand made gnocchi with a red sauce and bacon. The wine was incredible a local red from Montescudaio.
In Bolgheri we ate at Enoteca Tognoni a delicious meal with a wide range of wine to choose from we enjoyed a 2010 Bolgheri Superiore from Sondraia.
The perfect get away from Florence even for a day to discover an unknown area that offers exceptional wineries, gorgeous Tuscan Landscapes with beach views!
