In the province of Grosseto you will find one of the most beautiful coast lines in Italy. The coastline begins at Follonica and ends at Monte Argentario.
My favourite town along the coast is Castiglione della Pescaia. The pretty beach location includes a medieval historical fortress. It’s town centre flows down to a modern beach strip and port with breathtaking views of the islands of Elba, Giglio and Argentario.
This coast-line is not internationally acclaimed like Amalfi or Portofino although I am not suggesting it isn’t high end. Of all the quaint beach type fashion stores in the historical centre you can still find labels like Brunello Cucinelli.
You can enjoy fresh fish meals at excellent restaurants like Osteria del Mare and Ristorante da Antonietta owed by local fisherman. Take a stroll along the port and enjoy an aperitif on the beach. Don’t miss a gelato at one of the best rated in the country ‘Cremeria Corradini’ I still can’t get over the ‘Amadei – white chocolate with a Morellino di Scanscano Grappa’ flavour!! For michelin star excellence check out Chef Andrea Ribaldone at Golf Hotel Punta Ala
The residences and Hotels in the town centre are quite average. You will find superb lodging slightly out of the city. Top Hotels include L’andana and L’Acquacotta. L’Aquacotta is run by Eduardo and his family who welcome you in to their residence. Morning breakfast includes freshly baked delights prepared daily by the family. Dinners can also be prepared on request and include a selection of local specialties or home made. Their selection of Gluten-free products are exceptional and delicious!!
Apart from enjoying time on the coast line you can also visit a number of organic fruit farms. EVO Estates and wineries. The Antinori have recently opened an exceptional winery and fruit farm in the area called Le Mortelle. You can enjoy lunch and a tasting to visit their eco-friendly cellars that has been constructed inside a mountain!
