One of my most favourite seasons has arrived. The joy of tasting fresh EVO will be a rarity this year. Bad weather and insects have destroyed a large part of the 2014 harvest. Most farms in Tuscany will not harvest at all!
So how are we going to survive this year? my recommendation is get to your local EVO farm and buy all of the 2013 available!
You will have to be extra careful this year when purchasing 2014 EVO. The little EVO available in Tuscany should cost around 12 Euro per litre even more! When you are at the supermarket and you see 5 litres for 20 euro remember that Oil is definitely not consumable!!
These are the places around the city centre I recommend, where you will be sure the product is of excellent quality:
La Bottega del’Olio – At Andrea’s charming store in Piazza del Limbo you will find very few Tuscan Oil’s Available this year although he has Bardi – An Evo from Trequanda – Siena that is excellent.
Fuori di Porta – Just out side the door of San Frediano you can find Fuori di Porta where you can purchase 2014 EVO by the litre. You can buy 5 litres bottles that is perfect for cooking.
La Rinascente – The food section on the top floor has an excellent selection of national EVO.
Enoteca Alessi – At Enoteca Alessi you can find a number of some of the best Tuscan EVO such as Ornellaia & Tenuta di Capezzana
Baroni Alimentari – You can not really go wrong with any of the stock at this fabulous delicatessen owners Paola & Alessandro have a fantastic selection of EVO including selections from well known Sicilian Wine and Olive Estate Planeta
