Cantina di Toia – The home of Leonardo Da Vinci’s Grandmother

I just spent a the past few days with a lovely group on a Food and wine experience in the area of Carmignano. The Carmignano Region is no where near as famous as Chianti Classico although there are a number of wonderful wineries, EVO Farms and restaurants to experience.
We enjoyed dinner at Cantina di Toia a charming restaurant situated in Bacceretto that is actually the original home of Leonardo Da Vinci’s grandmother. Upon arrival you are greeted at your table with a warm and delicious covaccino – a thin pizza bread made fresh from the wood fire oven that is in your view from the seating area.
Our delicious dinner of typical fair included Onion Soup, Risotto with lemon zest, hand made ravioli from Mugello that are filled with potato and served with a ragu sauce. Our second courses included sliced beef in a rosemary and blueberry sauce. Dessert included home made sorbets of persimmon, lemon and apple, Warm Chocolate flan made with EVO.
Upon talking to the manager I was so sad to hear the restaurant will be closing end of year! he was so kind to show us around the property and the original fire place of Leonardo Da Vinci’s grandmother!
Be sure to visit if you are in the area for an unforgettable experience.
