Simone Taddei is the last artisan of this ancient technique of making hand made wooden leather boxes. He is the third generation and the last master craftsman of his family business.
Situated in front of the epic church Santa Margherita dei Cerchi where Dante Alighieri met his muse Beatrice and fell in love with her. Simone is a character who tells his story with passion and dismay like a true original artisan.
Simone’s hand made leather boxes take 3 weeks to produce. He begins with piecing the leather around a wooden form he then works the hard leather with his hands and water to mould it perfectly. The hand made leather boxes vary in size. Pricing starts at 80 Euro.
Other designs include business card holders, pen boxes and money coin purses. All products beautiful hand made in a series of typical Florentine leather colours and styles.

Dimitri Villoresi Bags – Skip the high end designer names! if you want a true made in Italy bag you have arrived at the right place. Born in the district of San Niccolo Dimitri learnt his craft in the district of San Frediano where he now has his studio amongst other florentine craftsmen.
Each piece is made with extreme care and dedication. Every stage is carried out by hand. Only using needle and thread not even a sewing machine! Choose from the bags on display or have your own bag made up and personalised just for you.

Paolo Penko – Paolo is one of the most charming artisans I have ever met. He and his family welcome you to their workshop and show room situated in the district of San Lorenzo. He speaks about his art as a Goldsmith with such passion and love for his work.
Paolo is one of Florence’s most important goldsmiths. His designs are influenced by the the city and reflect pieces taken from palaces, fresco’s by Botticelli, Stained glass circular motifs from the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Facades of Nobile Palace. You will see symbols of the Medici who ruled the city for over 350 years.
He is also one of the few goldsmiths to produce the original currency of Florence the Floren. Visit his workshop to see the master, his sons and his wife who is specialised in precious gems at work.

Federico Guerrini – Years ago on Via Matteo Palmieri Federico’s mother had a beautiful costume jewellery shop called Moltissimo. Her ecclectic hand made designs were fun and stylish. She was a collector of hand made beads particularly from Italian cities including Murano. She even worked for Angela Caputti. Being inspired by his mother Federico Guerrini has continued making costume jewellery and the selection is fantastic you could easily by every piece!
The tiny store is situated between the Lions Pub and the Pizzicheria in Piazza San pier Maggiore it very easy to miss. Federico also has stange opening hours if you visit between 05.00pm -07.00pm you should find him. Don’t miss it!
